Welcome to Ali’s Oriental Rugs
My name is Ali Khorasantchi and I would like to personally welcome you to my business and site. From our beginnings in Iran, our family has been in the rug business for 185 years and I proudly represent the 4th generation.
Born in Tehran, Iran in 1932, Ali was submerged in the world and culture of handmade rugs from a young age. He watched rugs being made around the house, studied various loom techniques, learned the historic meaning behind the different designs and observed his father conducting business in the Tehran Bazaar. Here he watched his father manage the business, connect with customers, negotiate with partners and purchase new inventory.
Ali learned the business quickly and helped whenever he could over the holidays. The family business boomed and Ali thought about starting his venture soon. However, he still had a lot to learn and was planning to attend college in the US. While visiting a friend in Hamburg, Germany, he fell in love with the city and decided to enroll at Hamburg’s University, studying Economics. He graduated 4 years later and was ready to start his own rug business.
His company, named “Iranco”, launched in 1959 and it soon became the largest wholesale business for fine Oriental rugs in Germany. While his business grew, he met his wife and started a family soon after. Ali ran the business in Dusseldorf for 42 years before he decided to move on to a new chapter. His wife Mally, a well-known artist, always loved to travel and while visiting their kids attending college in the US, they enjoyed being in Florida so much, that they decided to move in 1991.
After a few years of working on some other business ventures in the US, Ali was ready to continue his rug business and finally opened his new store in Naples in 2000. 20 years later, he is still going strong and enjoys servicing his customers at his Shirley Street store.
His well-established business caters to interior designers, corporate offices and of course, residential customers.
